This morning some light topics were on the list for an 20 August post. Wanted to tell you about my first kiss to Krisztián 13 years ago (to the day) or last year the conversation with Demis on the mobile during which I walked up the Castle and saw parts of the fireworks.
It's a national celebration and now a tragedy day.
What is the chance for a hurricane-like storm of 80-100 km/h to break out right at the beginning of the biggest country-wide celebration and that it would last exactly for those 30 minutes while hundreds of thousands of people go to the bank of the Danube to watch the show?!?
I wasn't afraid. Unfortunately many other weren't either. They had energy to laugh at others. We had a prayer & worship time from 6:30 and afterwards headed to watch the fireworks. (which equals to the NYer one in quality) Earlier this week on the Sziget I didn't know why I insisted on going to the Prodigy concert... to pray shouting in tongues in the middle of the crowd. Dávid was swept away in 10 seconds, but I held onto Dani and prayed for safety. No one died then.
This time we headed behind the Marriot Hotel where I told the guys to close their eyes. We had chunks of ashes falling on us... lots of dust. Right now I'm typing these words with leaves and dirt in my hair, t-shirt and pants. Of course the rest of us got split, with Kadosa and Dávid we were praying outloud for the safety of people, for children. Dávid joked about being swept by the wind... We went back to church after the whole ordeal. It was very crazy that people weren't afraid. Natural disaster is as frequent as ever these days. Last days, that is what we are living.
Even while I'm typing this, the sound of syrens is constant down the street. So far 3 deaths and many missing are reported. Just imagine, there were boats on the Danube which crashed... Trees pulled out of the ground... Hundreds of people injured. Only for those 30 minutes... then some rain only.
The hand of God is on this city. Insurance premium says "acts of God". Prophets of Europe and the world, do you have some insights?
You can be lucky!!!

Gabi, I respond to this question with a posting on my own weblog. It's open for further reflections.
